The Big Hearts of BRIO

We need to take a moment to brag about YOU, the BRIO Community! This amazing group of people has come together to support so many worthy causes in Saskatoon. We have provided funds, food, time, and even blood to a long list of charities in need of donations. When we find ourselves with the physical capability, the time, and the means to participate in CrossFit, we do not take this privilege lightly. With a sense of gratitude for our own situation, we look for every opportunity to help those around us. Check out the amazing contributions that have been made by the wonderful world of BRIO just within the past year!

BRIO At The Bess Day - $2115.90 to Telemiracle

In July 2017 the BRIO community came together to support Iain Maclean and his trip to the CrossFit Games to compete in the 40-44 Masters division. The awesome folks at the Bessborough Hotel were generous enough to let us throwdown for a fun afternoon of partner workouts in their beautiful gardens. Through event admissions and the sale of t-shirts, we raised just over $2000 to fund Iain's trip to Madison, WI. Instead of keeping the money though, he chose to donate 100% of the funds to Telemiracle, and rounded it up to a CrossFit-themed $2115.90.

Be Like Bruce in support of Bruce Gordon

When a member of the CrossFit Community in Saskatoon, Bruce Gordon, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the whole city pulled together to show their support in a "flash WOD" in July 2017 and provide for the family through donations and t-shirt purchases.

The BRIO Triathlon - $300 donated to Sasktip in memory of Jordan Darchuk

On the labor day long weekend we pack up the rowers and bring our bikes to Row, Run, and Ride along the beautiful South Saskatchewan River. Admission to the event goes into our charity fund and this year we made a donation to SaskTip in memory of Coach Julie's brother, Jordan Darchuk.

Broadway FitFest in support of KidSport

BRIO took Broadway by storm, coming together with other fitness businesses in Saskatoon to provide a fun day of sampling different types of exercise to raise money for KidSport, an organization that provides funding so that all kids can play.

Ryde the Hangar in Support of STARS Air Ambulance

Multiple BRIO members came out to ride their buns off in this 4 hour spin-a-thon and raise money to support STARS.

Thanksgiving Holiday WOD - A car full of food donated to the Saskatoon Food Bank

We're always open on stat holidays and we like to take these opportunities to give back and support the greater Saskatoon Community. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we, along with Vitality Nutrition, asked for non-perishable food items and were able to donate a car full of food to the Saskatoon Food Bank!

The Mustache Open - $205 donated to Movember

Every year, BRIO hosts a weightlifting meet in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Weightlifting Association. We charge admission to spectators via donation in whatever amount they see fit. Some throw in $1, and many will throw in $20. Every little bit is greatly appreciated! We donate 100% of the money collected to Movember in support of men's health.

The Intramural Open

In 2018 we added a "giveback challenge" for our teams during the BRIO Intramural Open. We left it wide open for the teams to decide which organizations they would choose to support and how they would do it.

Green to the Extreme organized a bottle drive and with a matching program at George R's employer Nutrien, they were able to donate $1000 to the STARS Foundation, supporting our heroes in the skies!

The Firebreathers organized a blood drive after The Open and had dozens of these fine specimens from BRIO show up to give blood.

The Purple Pistols collected items for the Saskatoon Crisis Nursery and were able to donate an entire van full of clothing and children's items.

Blue Steel chose the Saskatoon Food Bank as their charity of choice and collected non-perishable food items.

The E-Lemon-Ators sold socks and recipe books and were able to donate $250 to pediatric cancer awareness.

Listed all in one place, it is overwhelming to see the generous contributions the cool people of BRIO have made to the world around them. We look forward to finding many more opportunities and ways we can "pay it forward" and help those in need! Every one of these initiatives was community driven from someone with a great idea. If you have a great idea for a charitable activity we can support, please contact Jocelyn and we will do our best to help make it happen!
